From Caroline Weerstra, website administrator:
I began my own journey out of Pentecostalism in 1992 at the age of seventeen. At that time, I knew of no other Pentecostal that had ever even questioned Pentecostal teachings, much less left the Pentecostal church. I had no one to talk to about my experiences and I felt very alone. For some years after that, I wandered from one semi-Charismatic church to another, becoming more and more disillusioned, but not sure what to do.
"There must be someone else out there like me," I complained to my husband. "Surely someone else has experienced these things. I just wish I could talk to them."
I got my wish a short time later when I discovered an email list, an informal Presbyterian ministry for former Charismatics and former Pentecostals. This support group was truly an answer to prayer. Not only did I discover that there were many, many people who had similar experiences and could offer sympathy and support, but I was introduced for the first time to traditional Christian theology. And, for the first time, I began to truly recover. Two years later, my family and I became members of the Orthodox Presbyterian Church.
I began Delivered! in January 2006 as a small personal website, with a few stories from my own life and some humor articles. Over the next few months, however, the site saw a huge increase in readership and began to include articles by other ex-Pentecostals and ex-Charismatics. The site soon expanded to include many other features, such as the Pentecostal myths (the 'Fish Stories'), book and audio resource lists, and sermons by non-Pentecostal ministers.
The mission of Delivered! remains (as it has always been) to help other ex-Pentecostals and ex-Charismatics know that they are not alone, that there is hope and healing after Pentecostalism. If you are a former Pentecostal, former Charismatic, or if you are thinking of leaving the Pentecostal or Charismatic church, this website is for you! We hope that our site provides resources to help you on your journey. You are also welcome to email me with any questions or concerns or to share your story. All emails are considered confidential.
Thank you and may God bless you.
Sincerely,
Caroline
